Gymnast Shawn Johnson Put To Sleep After Breaking Leg
At first I was instantly heartbroken when I read the headlines "Gymnast Shawn Johnson Put To Sleep After Breaking Leg." Usually I would skip and not bother to watch something like this if it was anybody else, but this was Shawn Johnson, someone with talent which no one can compare to. I clicked on the video and gradually I learned that her whole death was a big lie.
The news was done by people called The Onion. Everything they report is all fake but all just for a good laugh, and it sure grabbed my attention right from the start.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Ryan. The Onion is a pretty hilarious source of parodies on current affairs. In fact, I remember that they do have some parodic takes on 9/11 as well -- a subject you'd think would be taboo for taking a shot at, but they do. This site will definitely provide interesting representations of disaster.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I am concerned about is: remember your public audience, as the Commonplace manual points out. Even though Shawn Johnson may be a sports celebrity, remember that her single "death" probably would probably not affect that many people, or be considered of ruinous proportions.
But great job of locating The Onion for a very refreshing take of media presentations!
